So I already mentioned how it’s been a great season so far here on the East Coast. This week has been no exception. The enormous winter storm that stretched 2,000 miles across the US pounded us both Tuesday and Wednesday, piling up close to two feet of powder in many areas, simply adding to what was already great conditions on the mountains. (Left: A pic from the side of my house, doesnt do the mountains justice but it’s the most snow i’ve seen at my place, ever)
Silly me decided to hit the trails on Monday instead of waiting for the storm to pass, little did I know that it would be a game changer.
It was probably my 7th or 8th run down when I hopped off the main trail and started slashing some powdery chutes at Bretton Woods. There was a great packed powder base covered by about 6 inches of fresh pow in the woods and on the edges of trails. I was cruising along at a good speed when my leg caught a young tree that had protruded from the snow and looped back into the base creating a deadly trap.
By board slid right into the tree’s loop as it pressed right under my knee and stopped my dead in my tracks. I thought I broke my leg at the knee, luckily that is not the case. However, I did mess my leg up pretty badly, with what has ultimately been diagnosed as a “bad sprain”.
So here I am, limping my ass around the house grumbling about how I had to miss out on “snowmageddon”. However, I know that in reality it could have been much worse. I may be swollen and sore, and I probably wont be able to board for a few weeks considering I still cant even walk normal, but it can always be worse.
I have a follow up with an orthopedist soon, so lets hope there’s no “hidden” damage.

Its funny how “bad” weather for everyone else in the country is great news for us.
