Busted Board & A Happy New Year

- December 31, 2010

Man it’s been busy over here lately with the holidays. The usual for us, family, friends, gifts, good food, and apparently lots of snow. However this year I got hit with a nasty stomach bug at the wrong time and ended up missing out on some good powder. Oh well, not a big deal. I used the opportunity to setup my boxes since it’s just about 2011 already and the backyard wasn’t seeing any action.

Although we had a good foot of snow at my house it got real warm the past two days and lots of it melted down. Regardless, I set em up with hopes to try out my new setup this year. You see, over the Summer and Fall I spent some time smoothing out the landings, moving some rocks and generally making improvements I couldn’t do in the midst of last winter. I placed one good sized rock strategically for the tail of one box to be propped on, providing a good drop off landing that would allow for better spins of the end of the box this year. I made sure it was tucked mostly under the box to avoid injury, but silly me forgot to worry about my board.

Fourth run in and I slipped off the box and nailed the rock with the nose of my board. Busted.

Cracked Snowboard Edge

But what’s a little cracked edge to get me down on New Years Eve. I’ll bring it into Nashua with me this upcoming work week and stop by my good friends at Eastern Boarder. A little epoxy and hot wax later I’ll be up and running again. Sure it won’t be as pretty as before, but luckily it’s just nose damage and I have fairly high hopes that it can be repaired to satisfaction. However, looks like I’ll be back on my old Solomon tomorrow when I take Kay to Pats Peak to practice some turns.

Until then, time to find an even better setup for the boxes! Oh, and Happy New Year, be safe and go stomp some pow.
