The idea isn’t new by any means. Mountains have been offering afternoon & night skiing / boarding for years now. However, I havent gone night boarding in years until just recently.
There’s only a limited number of mountains in the area that offer flood-lighting among their trail’s. Most of them are smaller mountains of course, with heavy volume of traffic & very family rated. Around the area we have Pat’s Peak, Gunstock, Smuggs, Crotched, to name a few.
I suppose I never took the initiative lately for a few reasons.
- It’s cold at night, damn cold.
- Glades are way too dangerous.
- Plenty of time during the day to board.
- I got my backyard park with flood-lights! haha.
However, I just recently got hooked up with a late season pass to Pat’s Peak which offers up night boarding until 10pm. Can’t pass that offer up, and ya know what? It was fun as hell!

Lines were minimal, and temperatures weren’t bad the other night as Shane and I tore it up at the local family mountain. Sure, the terrain is limited, and park practically non-existent, but what better to be doing at 8pm on a Saturday than spraying some rooster tails with a few friends.
So I ask you, how often do you hit the trails at night? Do you do it because its cheaper, more fun, less crowded? Truth be told, I see myself going a lot more in the future.
