Not too long ago I snagged the Smith Holt helmet because I was in the market for a good brain bucket and heard rumors that the Holt held up pretty well. Long story short, it rocks, and even though there are countless other reviews for the Holt out there, here’s one more if you want my perspective of pros and cons.
Pros: Works great, thats the point of a helmet after all, isn’t it? Also, it looks tight, coming in a variety of colors and patterns, theres a Holt for almost everyone. I picked up the Matte Graphite and couldn’t be happier with the aesthetics. It’s not too big at all, and I’ve gotten multiple compliments on it already in just a few weeks. It’s warm, I rocked the Holt on a windy single digit day and it kept my head warm as well as any beanie out there, the vents allow for a nice cool windflow on the not so cold days as well, keeping you’re head dry. Last but not least, the stereo speakers are a great addition. Sound is excellent, and the bungee headphone cord with adjustable volume and instant pause button is an added convenience.
Cons: My Oakley A-Frames don’t fit as nicely as I hoped. However, they are a large lens goggle, and the plastic strap clips don’t flex at all, making the goggles a tight, but manageable, fit. I mentioned the helmet is warm, which it is, but it’s too warm if your doing a lot of hiking. I had this sucker on in my backyard while hitting the boxes on a mild day and quickly worked up a sweat because I was doing more hiking than riding, but what can you expect I guess.
Overall the Holt delivers in more ways than one, and the great pros highly outweigh the insignificant cons.
