The Backyard is Now Open

- December 12, 2009

Last year I built two 8′ snowboard boxes for my backyard. You can see some early footage from my old BND site here. . Well I was finally able to set them up for the 09/10 season after what seemed like a very long autumn.

We got about 10″ of snow a few days ago in the mountains. Unfortunately at my house it turned into a rain over night as the temps rose. This made for a really crusty snow which surprisingly packed into a smooth drop into today’s multiple sessions. I spent a few hours of daylight as well as a few more at night with the spotlight shining down as you can see above.

I built the boxes with a top layer of polycarbonate as the main surface. On a dry and cold night like tonight you barely need any speed to destroy these babies. Right now I only setup the simple flat-down because of the lack of snow to work with, but it was all I wanted to get started this season anyway. Great for low-risk practice.
